Claudio Marchisio helps Juventus beat PSG with late penalty

MIAMI -- Claudio Marchisio scored his second goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to give Juventus a 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.

Juventus twice took the lead through Gonzalo Higuain and Marchisio, only to see PSG equalise through Goncalo Guedes and Javier Pastore, before Moise Kean drew a late penalty that led to the winner.

Paulo Dybala had the first scoring opportunity in the fourth minute as he cut inside a defender and curled a shot just wide of the post.

Juventus appeared the more dangerous early on as Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro threatened down the wings, beating PSG's full-backs for pace.

PSG's first chance game in the 18th minute as Blaise Matuidi picked off a pass and laid it off to Angel Di Maria, who could have crossed to Edinson Cavani but instead took a shot that went wide.

Di Maria then had another shot from the top of the box eight minutes later, this time forcing Gianluigi Buffon to make a diving save.

Dybala then narrowly missed a pair of free kicks on the half-hour mark, originally forcing PSG keeper Alphonse Areola to tip over, then moments later aiming for the opposite post, only to see it could go wide.

PSG had a goal ruled out for offside following a Juventus giveaway, but Cavani was too far forward when Di Maria fed him the ball in the box.

But Juventus quickly regained the advantage, Cuadrado trying his luck from distance and making Areola dive to his right to keep it out of the bottom corner.

The breakthrough came in the last play of the first half as Higuain played a sublime one-two with Dybala to get in behind the PSG defence before chipping the onrushing keeper to put Juventus ahead.

After both teams made eight changes at the half, Areola managed to push Stefano Sturaro's shot onto the post, and PSG immediately broke out on the counter, though Buffon was able to save Giovani Lo Celso's shot.

PSG found the equaliser in the 53rd minute after Di Maria played a one-two with Christopher Nkunku on the wing, then ran deep into the box and got a pass across before colliding with Buffon, leading to an easy tap-in for Guedes.

Nkunka got free on the wing again two minutes later, and Buffon barely got a piece of the ball to prevent another tap-in.

Juve got back in front in the 62nd minute when Kean picked off a poor pass and ran toward the box before showing good vision to pass across to Marchisio, who delivered a perfect left-footed, first-timed shot into the top corner past Remy Descamps, who had just come on for Areola.

Buffon went off to a loud ovation, and his replacement Carlo Pinsoglio was immediately fortunate to see Dani Alves' 30-yard attempt swerve just wide.

The goalkeeper showed he was up to the task when he made an acrobatic save to deny Jese -- though the linesman had ruled the ball had gone out of play in the build-up -- and moments later again Pinsoglio again did well to deny Lo Celso from eight yards.

But he could do nothing as PSG grabbed a second equaliser in the 80th minute. Layvin Kurzawa did well to keep the ball in play when it appeared to be headed out, and Juventus defenders were caught flat-footed as Javier Pastore arrived to head the ball home.

But Juventus had the final say as Presnel Kimpembe tried to muscle Kean off the ball, but the referee ruled it a penalty and Marchisio converted from the spot to give the Italian champs the victory.

The game ended amid jeers from PSG fans as Pastore was denied a late penalty, as the French club completed their U.S. tour with two defeats and a win on penalties after a draw with Roma.

Juventus will finish their ICC play against Serie A rivals Roma on Sunday.
