Antoine Griezmann scored four times as second-placed Atletico Madrid closed the gap between them and La Liga Leaders Barcelona to four points with a 4-0 home thrashing of Leganes on Wednesday evening.

After Griezmann struck the crossbar and Gerard Gumbau did so at the other end, the France international slotted in the opener in the 26th minute, having been teed up by Koke.

Nine minutes later, he unleashed another excellent free kick, with this one finding the net, and he then completed his hat trick -- his second in two games -- in the 56th minute via a header.

Griezmann subsequently added a fourth in the 67th minute, connecting with a Diega Costa cross, as Atletico followed up Sunday's 5-2 win at Sevilla with another emphatic triumph.

Barcelona have the chance to go seven points clear of them again on Thursday when they face Las Palmas away.

Atletico are now 10 points clear of third-placed Real Madrid, who lost 1-0 at Espanyol on Tuesday.
