Real Madrid set record unbeaten run after stunning comeback win

La Liga leaders Real Madrid produced a remarkable comeback to beat Deportivo La Coruna 3-2 in stoppage time at the Santiago Bernabeu and make history as their unbeaten run extended to 35 matches.

Manager Zinedine Zidane made eight changes and looked to be set to pay the cost when a quickfire double from former Real Madrid Castilla forward Joselu in the space of two second-half minutes turned the match around after a fine opener from Alvaro Morata.

However, substitute Mariano Diaz equalised with six minutes left and Sergio Ramos sent the Bernabeu into delirium when he powered in a header from a corner during stoppage-time.

The victory moved Los Blancos back to six points ahead of Barcelona, who had won 3-0 at bottom club Osasuna earlier in the day, and eclipsed the club landmark set by Leo Beenhakker's side from the 1988-89 season.

Zidane opted to rest the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema following the Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund and ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup in Japan.

Morata and Marco Asensio lead the Madrid frontline, while Isco and James Rodriguez started in midfield.

Real opened with plenty of intent and on 13 minutes, Nacho saw his angled snapshot blocked behind before a ball in from the right was palmed out by Deportivo goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton.

Deportivo had dismantled Real Sociedad 5-1 on Monday night and finally started to show some attacking threat as in the 28th minute, Celso Borges tested keeper Keylor Navas.

Real, though, suddenly sparked into life again as Morata sent Rodriguez clear into the Deportivo penalty area, but his shot was straight at Tyton.

The visitors almost broke the deadlock themselves on 34 minutes when Borges' header from a free kick beat Navas, but came back off the far post.

As half-time approached, Danilo charged into the right side of the Deportivo area and then took a somewhat theatrical tumble, but referee Jaime Latre was not interested.

Real Madrid finally swept into the lead four minutes into the second half with a fine goal from Morata.

Isco fed the ball into the edge of the Deportivo area, where Morata spun his marker before drilling a low shot into the far corner.

Raul Albentosa almost deflected the ball into his own net before Deportivo broke to equalise on 63 minutes.

Carlos Casemiro was robbed in possession by Florin Andone, who fed Carles Gil just outside the penalty area.

Gil cut the ball back across to Joselu, who was sold to German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in August 2012 and is currently on loan at Deportivo from English side Stoke.

The 26-year-old took a touch before promptly smashing a left-foot shot into the top corner.

Before Real could mount a recovery, they were 2-1 down inside a minute.

Andone was involved again as he got clear down the right and found Joselu in the penalty area who got ahead of Ramos and slipped the ball under Navas.

With the Santiago Bernabeu stunned, apart from the small band of ecstatic travelling support, Zidane made a couple of changes as Marco was replaced Vazquez and Mariano came on for Isco.

The impact substitutions paid of as Mariano equalised with six minutes left.

Vazquez clipped the ball over from the left, and Mariano got up to flick the ball up over the goalkeeper, with replays showing the vital touch had come off the shoulder of the Dominican international footballer.

Tempers flared during the closing stages, as Ramos and Deportivo defender Sidnei were both shown a yellow card for squaring up during a mass melee at a corner.

There was a delay in stoppage time as Tyton needed treatment after clattering into the post when making an acrobatic save from a looping header.

When play finally resumed, Toni Kroos whipped over the corner and Ramos fired a bullet header past the Polish keeper.
