Mexico well-beaten by Denmark in final World Cup warmup

COPENHAGEN -- Second-half goals from Yussuf Poulsen and Christian Eriksen clinched a 2-0 victory for Denmark against Mexico in each team's final warm-up game ahead of the World Cup in Russia.

Denmark coach Age Hareide named what appeared to be his strongest side, while Mexico's Juan Carlos Osorio only started five or six of the players that appear likely to be in the XI against Germany in El Tri's opener on June 17.

Mexico looked nervous at the back early on, and although El Tri gradually took control of possession in the first half, it was Denmark that had the better chances.

Nicolai Jorgensen spawned two opportunities in the first half and Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was forced into two good saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Denmark appeared set to extend its two-match streak without a goal, but Poulsen curled a left-footed shot into the far corner to open the scoring in the 71st.

Eriksen increased Denmark's lead three minutes late from a similar position.

Mexico saw a Rafa Marquez header go just wide in the second half and Javier Hernandez hit the post late on, but it was a disjointed display from El Tri.

Denmark takes on Peru in its opening World Cup game on June 16 in Saransk, while Mexico travels to Moscow on Monday ahead of its test against Germany.
