La policía confirmó que al menos un hombre armado mató a 49 personas e hirió a docenas más el viernes en dos mezquitas en Christchurch.
La gira del equipo de cricket de Bangladesh por Nueva Zelanda se suspendió luego de los ataques. Por su parte, la primera ministra de Nueva Zelanda, Jacinda Ardern, describió el ataque como "uno de los días más oscuros de Nueva Zelanda".

Sonny Bill Williams, un devoto musulmán y jugador estrella del equipo, compartió un emotivo mensaje poco después de los ataques.
"Acabo de escuchar las noticias. No puedo expresar con palabras cómo me siento ahora", dijo Williams.
