Juan Carlos Valenzuela salvages draw for Mexico in Peru

LIMA, Peru -- Peru and Mexico drew 1-1 on Wednesday in a friendly in preparation for the Copa America.

Peru's Jefferson Farfan opened the scoring on 62 minutes, taking advantage of a ball that was rebounded off the left post.

Juan Carlos Valenzuela scored on a header from a set piece in the 75th minute to salvage the tie for Mexico.

Peru dominated almost without counter-weight most of the game, but Mexico pressed in the final minutes of the second half.

With a more aggressive attitude, Peru took over the midfield and imposed their passing game against opponents who were more conservative in their deployment.

Peru supplied the greatest danger with shots from Paolo Guerrero, Farfan and Carlos Lobaton.

But the hosts finished with 10 men from the 78th minute when Pedro Requena was sent off.

The match was played at the National Stadium in the capital before more than 20,000 spectators.
