El guardia de los Boston Celtics, Kyrie Irving, será honrado por la tribu Standing Rock Sioux en una ceremonia el jueves en Dakota del Norte, dijo la tribu en un comunicado de prensa.

La celebración incluirá una ceremonia de nombramiento, actuaciones y comida comunitaria en el Prairie Knights Pavilion, un casino en Fort Yates, Dakota del Norte.

La difunta madre de Irving, Elizabeth Ann Larson, fue adoptada de la familia de la tribu White Mountain y sus abuelos y bisabuelos eran ciudadanos de la tribu, según la versión de la tribu.

En junio, Irving lanzó la versión 'N7' de sus zapatillas de baloncesto Kyrie 4, que presentaba un sello de Standing Rock en los talones de los zapatos.
