America, Santos combine for 25 shots in goalless CCL semifinal first leg

There was a total of 25 shots but no goals as Santos Laguna and Club America drew 0-0 in the teams' CONCACAF Champions League semifinal first leg on Wednesday in Estadio Corona.

Santos defender Carlos Izquierdoz had the best chance of the match in the fifth minute, but his header from a corner sailed over the crossbar, with the Argentine completely unmarked.

America's Michael Arroyo hit the woodwork with a shot from the left wing four minutes before half-time, but there was little between the sides and possession was evenly split.

The draw means both teams go into the second leg on April 5 in Estadio Azteca with all to play for. America will be hoping to use the advantage of being at home and Santos will be aiming for away goals to complicate matters.

In the other CCL semifinal on Tuesday, Queretaro and Tigres also drew 0-0 in another all-Liga MX affair. All four of Mexico's representatives in the competition advanced from the quarterfinals after defeating MLS teams.

The winner of the competition will represent CONCACAF at the Club World Cup in Japan in December.
