Sampdoria scored a historic 1-0 derby victory against Genoa in Serie A's only match on Saturday.

Luis Muriel's goal midway through the second half saw Samp complete a league double over their rivals for the first time since 1960 as they moved up to ninth in the table.

Muriel went close early in the second half with a powerful effort that clipped the top of the crossbar before making the breakthrough after 71 minutes.

The Colombian pounced on a defensive error and kept his cool to drill the ball into the bottom corner of the net. He then received a yellow card for over-celebrating as he clambered to revel with the travelling fans behind the goal.

Patrik Schick almost scored a second goal for Sampdoria at the end of a mazy run but his effort was saved.

Genoa got their first win under new Coach Andrea Mandorlini last weekend at Empoli, ending a 10-match winless run in the league, while Sampdoria extended their unbeaten streak to seven games.
