The Superdome, opened in August 1975, is the largest indoor facility in the country for football and with its 20,000 tons of structural steel is the biggest steel-constructed venue.
Nearly $336 million was spent to repair and renovate to the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina and the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District have spent nearly $85 million in upgrades since 2010, which include a new Saints locker room, new team store, new press box and new exterior skin which was developed specifically for the Superdome. In 2011, new sideline seating and new exterior lighting system, with 26,000 LED lights that can produce multiple colors across the 96 concave panels.
The Superdome has hosted six Super Bowls -- Super Bowl XII (1978), XV (1981), XX (1986), XXIV (1990), XXXI (1997), XXXVI (2002) -- and will host its seventh at the end of the 2012 season, Super Bowl XLVII.
