Bernardo Silva struck a stoppage-time equaliser to clinch Monaco a 1-1 draw against Ligue 1 title rivals Paris St Germain.

The Monaco playmaker fired home a low shot from outside the box in the second minute of time added on to cancel out Edinson Cavani's late penalty for PSG.

The point for Monaco at the Parc des Princes was enough to lift Leonardo Jardim's side back above Nice to the top of the table and keep them three points clear of PSG, who remain third.

Cavani's 82nd-minute spot-kick, his 29th goal in all competitions this season, appeared to have been enough for PSG but Monaco, who have now scored 65 goals in 22 league matches this season, hit back to extend their unbeaten run to seven.

The game failed to live up to expectations in the first half with both sides restricted to half-chances.

Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar curled a free kick just wide and defender Fabinho's long-range shot was brilliantly saved by PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

PSG enjoyed their best spell of the first period just before the interval. Cavani's glancing header from full-back Thomas Meunier's cross was comfortably gathered by Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic.

Subasic then kept out Lucas Moura's low drive from outside the area and blocked Cavani's follow-up from a tight angle after the ball had rebounded to the Uruguayan striker.

Monaco went close to taking the lead at the start of the second half. Silva charged into the box and when the ball broke free, Radamel Falcao's vicious snap-shot was superbly beaten away by Trapp.

Trapp did well to keep out another fierce, swerving shot from Lemar, but the German keeper was soon clutching his hamstring and he was replaced by Alphonse Areola in the 53rd minute.

Monaco continued to carry the greater threat as the hour mark approached, but Lemar's excellent low cross evaded everybody in the box as PSG struggled to get out of their own half.

PSG then carved out two more chances. Meunier snatched at a volley from Julian Draxler's cross and the latter then headed Layvin Kurzawa's ball into the box over the crossbar.

The home side pushed forward again inside the last 10 minutes and were rewarded with a penalty when Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe sent Draxler tumbling in the box.

Sidibe was booked and Cavani stepped forward to coolly place a right-footed penalty inside Areola's left-hand post in the 81st minute.

Monaco substitute Kylian Mbappe was brilliantly foiled by Areola in the closing stages, but with time running out Silva was allowed too much room outside the box and his low shot caught out PSG's substitute keeper Areola and rescued Monaco a point.
