Cristiano Ronaldo scores a hat-trick as Real Madrid defeat Alaves

Cristiano Ronaldo hit a hat-trick and missed a penalty as leaders Real Madrid came from behind to beat Alaves 4-1 in an entertaining LaLiga contest.

Deyverson put the hosts into a surprise early lead at the Mendizorrotza Stadium but Ronaldo equalised from the penalty spot and fired in a long-range second before the break.

Both sides threatened in an open second half but Real finished strongly and, although Ronaldo saw a second spot-kick saved, wrapped up victory with further goals from Alvaro Morata and the Portuguese late on.

It was a dramatic return to form for Ronaldo after scoring just twice in his previous six LaLiga outings.

He and Real were given a wake-up call as Alaves grabbed the lead after just seven minutes. Theo Hernandez's low cross from the left byline caught out Keylor Navas and was thumped home by a sliding Deyverson from six yards. Hernandez threatened to tee up another soon after but his cross was headed over by Edgar Mendez.

Real hit back to win a penalty when Deyverson blocked a Gareth Bale free-kick with his hand.

Ronaldo made no mistake with his first attempt from the spot, sending Fernando Pacheco the wrong way with a low shot to the right.

Alaves had an opportunity to reclaim the lead when Manu Garcia headed a Raul Garcia corner over and Kiko Femenia also had an effort blocked.

Real went ahead just after the half-hour. Karim Benzema beat two players with a clever turn and benefited from a kind ricochet to slip the ball to Ronaldo.

The three-time world player of the year powered towards goal and unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards which swerved beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Ronaldo and Bale both missed the target with further efforts before the break but Alaves threatened again from a set-piece with Zouhair Feddal heading wide.

Both sides upped the tempo after the break. Victor Camarasa and Deyverson both forced Navas to save while Isco, Mateo Kovacic, Bale and Ronaldo all had chances for Real.

Ronaldo went close to completing his hat-trick in spectacular fashion as he met a Kovacic cross with an acrobatic volley but it flew wide.

Real took control in the latter stages and were awarded another penalty when Nenad Krsticic pulled the shirt off Ronaldo at a corner. Ronaldo tried to repeat his earlier effort from 12 yards but this time Pacheco read his intentions and pushed his shot away.

The visitors could not be contained much longer, however, and made certain of victory six minutes from time when Morata raced onto a long ball from Marcelo and lobbed Pacheco.

Ronaldo completed his treble in the 88th minute after playing a one-two with Marcelo in the area and taking a touch before slotting in.
