SAN LUIS (AP) -- Christian Yelich disparó un jonrón, Brent Suter se combinó con Devin Williams y Josh Hader para lanzar pelota de cinco hits, y los Milwaukee Brewers blanquearon el viernes 3-0 a los St. Louis Cardinals en el primer encuentro de una doble cartelera.
Ambos conjuntos figuran entre los ocho de la Liga Nacional que pelean por cuatro boletos disponibles a la postemporada. Milwaukee se acercó a un juego de St. Louis en la contienda por el segundo sitio de la División Central de la Liga Nacional.
Los dos primeros puestos de cada división avanzan a los playoffs.
Brewers y Cardinals tienen también posibilidades de avanzar con alguno de los dos pasajes de comodín en la Nacional. Se enfrentan entre sí durante una serie de cinco juegos que pone fin a su campaña regular.
El duodécimo cuadrangular de Yelich en la temporada llegó en el tercer inning, para colocar a Milwaukee arriba por 3-0. Tres lanzamientos antes, el abridor Jack Flaherty (4-3) se desplomó al hacer un lanzamiento con cuenta de 0-2.
Flaherty permaneció sentado en el terreno durante un minuto, haciendo una mueca de dolor, antes de reanudar su faena.
Trabajó cinco episodios, en los que permitió tres carreras y cinco imparables. Recetó cinco ponches y regaló cuatro boletos.
Suter lanzó pelota de dos imparables en cuatro entradas, mientras que Williams (2-0) brindó dos innings eficaces y Hader se acreditó su duodécimo salvamento en 14 oportunidades.
