Athletics doblega a Angels y sigue en lucha por wildcard
ANAHEIM, California (AP) -- Cole Irvin lanzó seis sólidos innings para su primera victoria en cuatro semanas y los Oakland Athletics se mantuvieron en la lucha por el wildcard de la Liga Americana al vencer el viernes 5-4 a Los Ángeles Angels.
Josh Harrison remolcó dos carreras y Mark Canha anotó la decisiva en un pásbol en el sexto episodio. Fue el tercer triunfo consecutivo para Oakland (80-67), que sigue a dos juegos y medio del último puesto del wildcard. Los Athletics mantuvieron la distancia con los New York Yankees (83-65) y avanzaron un juego frente a Toronto Blue Jays (82-65), que perdió en Minnesota Twins y cayó medio juego por detrás de New York.
Oakland cometió tres errores en los dos primeros capítulos, varó a 10 corredores en las bases en los seis primeros innings y no logró hits extrabase. Pero aún así lograron carreras suficientes para imponerse a los improvisados lanzadores de los Angels.
Irvin (10-13) admitió siete hits, ponchó a tres y cedió una carrera limpia de las cuatro que recibió a pesar de permitir su sexto jonrón en cuatro aperturas. Sergio Romo lanzó la novena entrada para su tercer salvamento del año, el primero desde el 2 de septiembre.
