Max Scherzer brilla y guía a Nationals al triunfo en última salida con Washington
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Max Scherzer ofreció una actuación sobresaliente en la que fue su última apertura con los Washington Nationals al conceder tres hits en seis entradas en la victoria por 3-1 sobre los Philadelphia Phillies en el primer partido de una doble cartelera.
Horas después del juego y en medio de rumores que ponían al as en varios equipos, Scherzer fue cambiado a los Dodgers.
El brasileño Yan Gomes rompió el empate con un jonrón de dos carreras en la séptima entrada para Washington, que lidia con un brote de COVID-19 que obligó a posponer el juego del miércoles por la noche. Antes del encuentro, los Nationals cambiaron al cerrador Brad Hand a los Toronto Blue Jays y hay un gran número de equipos con aspiraciones a la Postemporada que desearían contar con Scherzer para los últimos dos meses de la campaña regular.
Scherzer (8-4) permitió un cuadrangular en el cuarto inning de J.T. Realmuto, ponchó a cinco y dio una base por bolas en 88 lanzamientos. Kyle Finnegan asumió el rol de cerrador y ponchó a dos en la séptima entrada para sumar su primer rescate.
Wheeler (8-6) abrió por los Phillies y cubrió la ruta completa en el partido de siete episodios en los que permitió siete imparables y regaló dos bases por bolas con cinco ponches en 100 lanzamientos.
Por los Nationals, Gomes terminó de 3-2 con una carrera anotada y un par de remolcadas y el venezolano Gerardo Parra de 2-1 con una anotada y otra producida.
