Diamondbacks emboscan a Mets para robarles el triunfo
PHOENIX (AP) - Corbin Carroll aportó el grand slam que significó la ventaja en el octavo inning ante el boricua Edwin Díaz como parte de una noche en que bateó un par de vuelacercas y los Arizona Diamondbacks vencieron el miércoles 8-5 a los New York Mets.
Los Diamondbacks perdían 5-4 al abrir el octavo capítulo, pero montaron un buen ataque con dos outs ante el taponero de los Mets.
Díaz (5-3) subió a la loma con un corredor en primera y dio bases por bolas a Pavin Smith y al dominicano Geraldo Perdomo antes de que Carroll consiguiera su segundo jonrón del duelo al enviar la pelota a las butacas del jardín derecho. Fue el sexto salvamento dilapidado por Díaz en la temporada.
Nueva York se rezagó a cuatro juegos de los Atlanta Braves en la lucha por el último boleto como comodín a Playoffs en la Liga Nacional.
Los Diamondbacks, campeones vigentes del Viejo Circuito, han ganado 21 de sus últimos 27 compromisos para mantenerse en la candente lucha dentro de la División Oeste, con Los Angeles Dodgers y los San Diego Padres.
Ryan Thompson (7-3) se llevó el triunfo al resolver en blanco la octava entrada.
Por los Mets, el puertorriqueño Francisco Lindor terminó de 4-1., el dominicano Starling Marte de 4-2 con una anotada, el cubano José Iglesias de 3-0 y el venezolano Francisco Álvarez de 3-1 con una anotada y una empujada.
Por los Diamondbacks, el cubano Lourdes Gurriel Jr. se fue de 2-1 con dos anotadas, el venezolano Luis Guillorme de 3-1 con una remolcada y Perdomo de 2-0 con una anotada.
