"Scotland have their first home Six Nations win for over three years, and it will live long in the memory. Vern Cotter's side were asked questions at every turn. They conceded the first try, saw their fly-half depart injured and then let France in again just as they appeared to have seized control of the contest. However, Scotland stood up at every turn. Having conceded a try late in the first half, Stuart Hogg hit a nerveless long-range penalty to give them the first points of the second. When Maxime Marchenaud narrowed the deficit to six and then three points, their defence held firm. Tim Visser's try confirmed a first win over France in a decade and it was fitting that Richie Gray, Greig Laidlaw and Hogg were all involved. Scotland will now prepare for Ireland with genuine belief and optimism.
It's done! FULL TIME!
Great try. Long, long pass from Laidlaw requires a jumping Stuart Hogg to flick it on further to Visser down the left flank. That pretty much came out of nowhere, the game's been pretty stale the past few moments but that'll hopefully spur it into life site.
And there we have it! It was coming, it must be said. France kept pushing and pushing and eventually Scotland couldn't keep holding firm. Gael Fickou breaks the line in the left corner and adds the five points for France. Just what they needed before the break.
Well, that nearly came of nowhere! Duncan Taylor with a huge bombarding run down the right flank from inside his own half. France couldn't deal with his pace, and Peter Horne played an essential role running alongside protecting him from potential tacklers. Cotter's side in the driving seat now.
Hogg scores! Some good work from Scotland and a big ball carry Richie Gray plays a big role in the creation of that try. Hogg is found down the left flank, but he has a lot of to still but does what is required excellently. Some great footwork and strong torso strength rejects two French tacklers near the line, ensuring that his name is on the try-scoring list.
Down the right flank! Guirado scores again for France. Multiple missed tackles from Scotland's defense ultimately proves costly as they're cut open. Not a great start from Scotland -- five points down and Russell's already been subbed off through injury!
We're into the lineouts now as Scotland opt to kick their way into French territory.
Short, sharp passing from the home side just outside the French 22. There's urgency about their play, but admittedly that's not a surprise considering they're infront of the home crowd and full of energy. France will be wanting to just hold tight over the first 10 minutes then start to impose their own game.
"Scottish optimism gave way to fatalism after five minutes at Murrayfield as Guilhem Guirado finished off a flowing French move. Home hearts sank still further as fly-half Finn Russell disappeared up the tunnel before Francois Trinh-Duc could miss the conversion. But miss he did, and he would fluff a routine penalty too. Scotland took full advantage of the let off, showing great character to find their way back into the game, and then the lead. Tries from Stuart Hogg and Duncan Taylor crowned an impressive half's work but Gael Fickou's late score, and Maxime Machenaud's conversion, have given France hope. Scotland lead by six but are far from home and dry."
Martyn's pre-game thoughts:
"Scotland's victory over Italy had many pundits instantly installing them as favourites to beat France. Les Bleus' performance in Cardiff undoubtedly contributed to that, and it does seem as though the momentum is with Cotter's side. There were wobbles in Rome, though, and the true test will come if the men in dark blue have a lead to defend going into the final stages. France will fancy themselves if they are within touching distance then, but expect Scotland to hold them off."
