Astros cae ante Rangers, pero asegura boleto a playoffs
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Los Houston Astros tuvieron que esperar unas horas para asegurar el último boleto de playoffs en la Liga Americana, al caer 5-4 ante los Texas Rangers.
Un rodado de Joey Gallo generó una jugada de selección que trajo al plato la anotación de la diferencia en el décimo capítulo, para dar la victoria a los Rangers.
Los Astros estaban a un strike de avanzar a los playoffs por cuarto año consecutivo, con lo que impondrían un récord de la franquicia. Pero el dominicano Ronald Guzmán empató mediante un jonrón en la parte baja de la novena entrada frente a Ryan Pressly y después tuvieron que esperar un resultado.
Houston debió esperar a que más tarde Los Ángeles Angels perdieran 9-5 ante Los Ángeles Dodgers y con ello los Astros (29-29) asegurarán el segundo puesto de la División Oeste de la Americana.
Su reinado de tres años en la división ya había sido cortado días antes por Oakland Athletics.
El cátcher novato Sam Huff consiguió dos jonrones, su segundo y tercero de la campaña, para las dos primeras carreras de los Rangers.
Brett Martin (1-1) logró el triunfo.
El dominicano Enoli Paredes (3-3) cargó con la derrota al otorgar un boleto a Isaiah Kiner-Falefa en el inicio del décimo capítulo. Las bases se llenaron cuando el primera base cubano Yuli Gurriel tiró desviado a segunda en un potente rodado de Willie Calhoun.
Por los Astros, el venezolano José Altuve de 4-0 con dos anotadas. El cubano Gurriel de 5-1 con una empujada. Los puertorriqueños Carlos Correa de 4-1 con una anotada, Martín Maldonado de 2-0.
Por los Rangers, el venezolano Rougned Odor de 4-0. El dominicano Guzmán de 4-1 con una anotada y una producida.
