Andre-Pierre Gignac fires Tigres past Pumas into the Liga MX semifinals

French international Andre-Pierre Gignac got a hat trick in Tigres' 5-0 win over Pumas in the second-leg of their quarterfinal series. The Monterrey side went on to win the tie 7-2 on aggregate.

It took Tigres three minutes to take the lead at Estadio Universitario. Javier Aquino found Gignac wide-open and fed him an assits that helped end the 30-year-old's 862-minute scoring drought in league play.

In the 25th minute, Los Auriazules extended their lead to two goals after Pumas' experienced defender and leader, Dario Veron, netted an own goal. Tigres dominated the first half from start to finish, leaving Pumas with little chance to initiate a miraculous comeback.

Tigres' attacking contingent led by Gignac dismantled Pumas, who only won twice away from Ciudad Universitaria in the 2016 Apertura.

Exactly a year ago, Tigres won its fourth league title and after their dominant quarterfinal they're on path of lifting their fifth Liga trophy.
