Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten 2-0 by Kashima Antlers in the Club World Cup quarterfinals despite missing a string of chances in a dominant first-half performance.
Sundowns were frustrated by Antlers goalkeeper Hitoshi Sogahata, who produced a succession of fine saves to keep them out.
But it was a different story after the break as the Antlers found some attacking menace and took the lead through Yasushi Endo shortly after the hour mark.
They sealed victory with just two minutes remaining when Mu Kanazaki struck and will now play Atletico Nacional in the last four.
