Inter Milan struggle in 3-0 defeat of last-placed Crotone

Inter Milan's as-yet-unnamed new head coach caught a glimpse of the size of the task awaiting him as the Nerazzurri struggled to put away basement boys Crotone.

The San Siro club will reveal the identity of Frank de Boer's successor in the next couple of days -- with Stefano Pioli currently the favourite -- and the board's pick has plenty to do to revive a title bid.

With time running out, Ivan Perisic broke the deadlock before Mauro Icardi grabbed a last-gasp brace to determine a 3-0 home victory.

The early signs were positive as Ever Banega carved out a route to goal before shooting straight at Alex Cordaz.

It took Miranda until the 32nd minute to give Crotone's goalkeeper more cause for concern with a header from a corner that Cordaz punched clear.

Boos rang out as Inter traipsed inside at the break and Jeison Murillo's weak attempt to nod Banega's delivery into the net when play resumed did little to win the fans round again.

The Nerazzurri made Cordaz work again in the 63rd minute, Banega forcing a diving save from the former Inter trainee.

With six minutes remaining at an increasingly fractious San Siro, Perisic diffused the tension.

Allowed the freedom of Milan to burst into the box from the right, the Croatian schemer gathered Icardi's assist before beating Cordaz with an angled drive.

Crotone let their concentration slide and Gian Marco Ferrari promptly conceded a penalty for a foul on Icardi, who dusted himself down before scoring from the spot.

The pressure was now off and Icardi helped himself to a second deep into stoppage time.
