Yannick Carrasco and Kevin Gameiro both struck twice as Atletico Madrid beat Malaga 4-2 in a La Liga clash that saw both sides finish with 10 men.
Each man was on target as the hosts took an early 2-0 lead at the Vicente Calderon but Sandro Ramirez pulled a goal back.
Gameiro's second seemed to put Atletico back in command but Stefan Savic's dismissal gave Malaga an opening and Ignacio Camacho set up a potentially tense finish.
However, Carrasco eased home nerves after 86 minutes and Malaga's night ended with a red card for Gonzalo Castro.
Malaga's Jony was the first to threaten goal with a long-range attempt after five minutes but Jan Oblak was not troubled and Atletico were soon ahead.
The opener came as Antoine Griezmann slipped in Carrasco on the edge of the box and he took a touch before beating Carlos Kameni with a low, left-footed shot across goal.
Griezmann was heavily influential and headed over before teeing up another chance for Juanfran, whose effort was saved by Kameni.
Atletico's pressure paid off as they forced the errors which led to their second after 24 minutes. Bakary Kone headed an overhit Juanfran cross back into the danger area in front of goal and Camacho compounded that mistake by heading it straight to Gameiro - who accepted the gift and lashed home.
Malaga replied in spectacular fashion after 31 minutes when Ramirez curled in a free-kick from wide on the left.
Yet that merely interrupted Atletico's flow with Saul Niguez firing narrowly over, Griezmann forcing a save and Carrasco missing the target.
A third Atletico goal seemed likely and it arrived a minute before the interval as Griezmann headed a long ball from Filipe Luis into the path of Gameiro, who rifled in after skipping over a challenge from Mikel Villanueva.
That tempo continued in the early stages of the second half, although Camacho almost snatched a goal for Malaga against the run of play with a shot that went wide.
Gameiro tested Kameni, Diego Godin missed the target and Griezmann and Luis both had attempts blocked.
The complexion of the game changed on the hour, however, as Savic was booked for a second time in the space of 11 minutes for fouling Gonzalo Castro.
The hosts responded by replacing Griezmann with defender Lucas Hernandez and Malaga almost immediately pulled another goal back as Camacho headed home a Castro corner.
But any fears home fans might have had proved unfounded as Atletico found another gear to kill off Malaga's hopes of a fightback.
Carrasco hit the bar from a free-kick and Niguez shot narrowly wide before the former finally made the game safe four minutes from time.
That was not the end of the action, however, as Castro got a red card following a second yellow in the 88th minute.
