Manny Pacquiao, el único campeón de boxeo de ocho divisiones, anunció su retiro del deporte en una publicación de Facebook el martes por la noche.
"Es difícil para mí aceptar que mi tiempo como boxeador terminó", dijo Pacquiao. "Hoy estoy anunciando mi retiro. Nunca pensé que llegaría este día. Mientras cuelgo mis guantes de boxeo, me gustaría agradecer a todo el mundo, especialmente al pueblo filipino, por apoyar a Manny Pacquiao".
El filipino Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs), 42, ganó 12 campeonatos importantes en su carrera y fue campeón lineal en cinco divisiones diferentes. También tuvo títulos en cuatro décadas diferentes (1990, 2000, 2010 y 2020). Pacquiao, miembro de la Cámara de Representantes de Filipinas, anunció recientemente que se postulará para presidente de su país en 2022.
